Your First Appointment: A Simple Checklist

A simple checklist for your first physiotherapy or rehab visit at AIM — what to bring, what to wear, and what to expect.

Before your visit

  • Insurance info — card, member ID, plan and group number, date of birth.
  • Imaging or reports — anything from your physician or specialist that's relevant.
  • A short symptom timeline — when symptoms started, what's helped, what's made it worse.
  • What success looks like — one or two specific things you'd like to do again.

What to wear

Comfortable clothing you can move in. For lower-body assessments, athletic shorts help. For shoulder or neck, a tank top or t-shirt. Pelvic floor visits are private — wear what's comfortable.

At the clinic

Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete intake. Your therapist will take a thorough history, assess movement and relevant tests, and discuss findings and a plan with you. Most first visits are 45–60 minutes.

After the visit

You'll typically leave with a plan — exercises, expectations, and a follow-up cadence. We aim to give you a clear sense of trajectory so you know what to expect.
