Physiotherapy and WCB-Alberta: How It Works

Reporting an injury, getting your claim approved, and what to expect from physiotherapy under a WCB-Alberta claim.

The basic flow

  1. Report the injury to your employer and WCB-Alberta.
  2. Seek medical attention as needed; your physician or first-care provider files a report.
  3. Receive a claim number from WCB.
  4. Book a physiotherapy assessment — bring your claim number.
  5. Begin treatment under WCB's approval, with progress reporting and modified-work suggestions as appropriate.

What's covered

For accepted claims, WCB-Alberta covers approved physiotherapy and rehabilitation services. AIM bills WCB directly — you don't pay out of pocket for approved treatment.

Communication with your employer

With your consent, we share progress reports and modified-work recommendations so your return-to-work is realistic and supported. Modified duties are part of most plans.

What success looks like

Return to your role (or modified role) with capacity, confidence, and durability. We track functional milestones, not just pain levels.
